Naslov:HEALTH TREATMENT OF THE ELDERLY WITH DEPRESSION IN THE FAMILY MEDICINE CLINIC - THE ROLE OF NURSING PROVIDERS
Opis:Theoretical introduction: Depression is a widespread mental disorder among the elderly, although it often remains undiagnosed and untreated due to associated chronic diseases and decline in cognitive functions. Therefore, it is important to inform the entire population that they should seek professional help when they notice the first symptoms in themselves or others. In family medicine clinics, such patients must be recognized so that they can be provided with support and treatment. The purpose of the thesis was to examine the role of nursing care providers in the treatment of elderly people with depression in a family medicine clinic. Methods: The research was based on a quantitative research approach and a descriptive method of work. The primary data for analysis was obtained through a survey technique using a structured survey questionnaire. The sample was purposive and included 100 patients identified in a family medicine clinic at the primary level, aged 65 years or older, with a low, medium or high risk of developing depression or with a confirmed diagnosis. We obtained the consent of the institute to conduct the survey (Medicinski center Mirjam Vide Katič, dr. med., spec. spl. med.). Results: The research shows that 70 (70%) respondents have experienced depression in the past. 46 (46%) respondents believe that the occurrence of depression was influenced by stressful factors from childhood. 45 (45%) respondents experience mood swings throughout the day, 47 (47%) respondents occasionally feel sad, depressed and tearful. 40 (40%) respondents experience loss of interest and joy in everyday activities. 46 (46%) respondents struggle with poor concentration or memory loss. According to our research, 63 (63%) respondents trust their nurse. Good and calm communication with their nurse has been experienced by 52 (52%) respondents. With the obtained results, we can confirm that trust and mutual respect between the nurse and patient are crucial for the optimal treatment of depression in elderly patients. Discussion: It is very important to identify the symptoms of depression as early as possible, which often do not manifest specifically and are often overlooked in the elderly due to associated diseases. By including protective factors for depression, the main focus is on risk factors that we need to eliminate as much as possible from the environment, because they negatively affect the elderly, their treatment and the best possible mental health should be always maintained. The positive attitude that the patient feels in the family doctor's clinic is essential, because it makes easier to communicate, to show emotions, and with this, it is easier to direct the patient to the right form of treatment and his well-being.
