Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Najpogostejše vzroki za poškodbe glave in hrbtenice so prometne nesreče, padci, napadi, športne poškodbe in poškodbe pri delu.

Title:TREATMENT OF A PATIENT WITH A HEAD AND SPINE INJURY
Abstract:Theoretical basis: The most common causes of head and spine injuries are traffic accidents, falls, assaults, sports injuries, and workplace accidents. Due to prompt and proper patient management at the primary level, increased public awareness, and correct professional treatment, more and more injured individuals survive. The role of healthcare workers is to approach the injured person correctly, focusing on saving lives and maintaining normal bodily functions. Method: A descriptive method of work was used in the quantitative research. Data was collected through anonymous surveys. The sample was opportunistic and included nurses employed in a clinical setting. Results: The survey included 250 respondents, but not all answered every question. In the survey, respondents indicated that more than half had encountered a patient who had suffered a head injury (n = 159; 77%) and a spinal injury (n = 142; 71%). The vast majority of respondents (n = 105; 87%) are familiar with the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Almost all respondents (n = 110; 99%) agree that a CT scan of the cervical spine should be performed on a patient who has sustained a head injury. Discussion: Nurses are very important in the treatment of patients with head and spinal injuries. They have the first contact with the patient at the primary level, where maintaining life is crucial. We found that the respondents are familiar with the approach to trauma patients according to the ABCDE protocol and the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). They are also aware of the importance of immobilization in trauma patients and know how to perform it. Their work at the secondary level is also crucial, where they participate in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that are essential for the quality of life of the patient after the accident.
Keywords:injury, first aid, immobilization, ABCDE approach.
