Sodeluje z interdisciplinarnim zdravstvenim timom ter nudi psihosocialno podporo pacientu in svojcem. Celostni pristop medicinske sestre zagotavlja optimalno nego in dolgoročno uspešnost transplantacije. Vse intervjuvanke svoje paciente poučijo o imunosupresivnih zdravilih, ki so nekaj novega v življenju pacientov in jih bodo morali jemati vse do svoje smrti.

Title:THE ROLE OF A NURSE IN KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION
Abstract:Introduction: The role of the nurse in kidney transplantation is crucial for the patient's successful recovery. Their responsibilities include healthcare provision, educating the patient and their family about proper medication adherence, recognizing signs of complications, and emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Nurses collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team and provide psychosocial support to both the patient and their family. A holistic approach by the nurse ensures optimal care and long-term success of the transplantation. The aim of this research is to define the nurse's role in kidney transplantation. The objectives of the research are to investigate the nurse's role in preparing the patient for kidney transplantation, to explore the educational content that the nurse presents to the patient during kidney transplantation, and to examine the nurse's role in caring for the patient post-kidney transplantation. Methods: The study employs a qualitative research approach and a descriptive method. A semi structured interview, based on a pre-prepared questionnaire template, was conducted while adhering to all ethical research principles. The study involved six registered nurses who work with patients suffering from kidney failure, either awaiting or having undergone kidney transplantation. The collected data were qualitatively analyzed, with the responses organized into tables, coded, and interpreted them in discussion and conclusion. Results: The study involved registered nurses. We found that the nurse plays a significant role in preparing the patient for kidney transplantation. The patient needs to be prepared both physically and psychologically, but each interviewee uses a different approach. Most interviewees prepare the patient individually. Some include family members in the process, while others seek the patient's permission to do so. Part of the preparation includes health education, conducted by the registered nurse. All interviewees educate their patients about immunosuppressive medications, which are new to the patient's life and will be with them for a lifetime. Effective communication between the patient and the registered nurse is crucial for better outcomes. After kidney transplantation, the nurse monitors the patient's condition, which can deteriorate rapidly in the event of complications. The registered nurse possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to respond to such situations. Discussion: The nurse plays a crucial role in kidney transplantation, being involved in all phases of this complex process. Her duties range from preparing and educating the patient to providing intensive postoperative care and long-term support. The nurse's role also impacts the quality of life after the transplantation. The better the patient is prepared for the transplantation and recovery, the fewer complications they will face. This process is demanding for the patient and requires significant support from both the nurse and family members. The nurse is also available to the patient for conversations and questions. Her work should be empathetic, professional, and precise.
