Abstract:The most common form of urinary incontinence in female athletes who engage in highintensity exercise is stress urinary incontinence (SUI). With appropriate preventive measures, including education and appropriate physiotherapy exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, it is possible to prevent the development of this type of dysfunction. Method: The thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part reviews the professional literature on SUI in athletes, highlighting how high-intensity exercise can increase the risk of this condition. It also emphasizes the role of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) as a preventive measure. The empirical part involved two questionnaires completed by adult female judokas and women engaged in low-intensity sports. The sampling was purposive, data were processed using SPSS software with statistical methods such as the Mann-Whitney test, Spearman’s rank correlation and regression analysis. Results: The results showed that the prevalence of SUI symptoms among the judoka group was not statistically significantly higher than in women involved in low-intensity sports. However, there was a low level of awareness regarding PFMT. Although some participants were familiar with pelvic floor exercises and their correct execution, most did not regularly practice these exercises. Discussion: The findings highlight the need for educational programs on pelvic floor dysfunction and the implementation of preventive strategies to reduce the risk of stress urinary incontinence in female athletes, particularly in high-intensity sports like judo. Raising awareness about PFMT and promoting its regular practice are crucial steps in improving long-term health and athletic performance for female athletes.
