Metoda: Uporabili smo kvalitativni raziskovalni pristop in deskriptivno metodo dela. Za potrebe empiričnega dela so bili zbrani, analizirani in sintetizirani primarni in sekundarni viri. Medicinska sestra spodbuja in motivira pacienta k zdravemu načinu življenja. Poleg tega medicinska sestra poučuje paciente o pravilni aplikaciji predpisanih zdravil in možnih stranskih učinkih ter spremlja bolnika celotno obravnavo in zdravljenje.

Title:THE ROLE OF THE NURSE IN THE HEALTH EDUCATION OF THE OSTEOPOROSIS PATIENT
Abstract:Theoretical Background: Osteoporosis is a condition that affects bones and impacts bone mineral density. It primarily occurs in women after menopause, but men are also affected. A healthy lifestyle, developed from an early age, plays the most important role in preventing osteoporosis. Healthcare workers are key in this effort, as they encourage patients to manage the disease through education on healthy nutrition, regular physical activity and the provision of accurate information. The aim of health education is to inform patients about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The purpose of this research is to define the role of nurse in educating patients about osteoporosis, both before the onset and after diagnosis. Methods: We used a qualitative research approach and a descriptive working method. For the empirical part, primary and secondary sources were collected, analyzed and synthesized. Primary data collection was based on a structured template for a semi-structured interview. A purposive sample was selected, and six female patients with osteoporosis were interviewed. Results: All interviewees said that the nurse has an important role in educating patients about osteoporosis. The nurse's role involves both preventive and curative support. Nurses encourage and motivate patients toward a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, they teach patients about the correct use of prescribed medication, inform them of possible side effects, and monitor patients throughout the entire course of treatment and care. Discussion: We found that the nurse plays a crucial role in educating patients about osteoporosis, preventing disease progression and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Health education is an essential part of healthcare, as it helps patients learn how to live with the disease. Nurses accompany patients throughout the entire care process, even after osteoporosis treatment has been successfully completed.
