Abstract: | Increasingly intercultural environments and stakeholder demands for creating a positive social and environmental impact impose the need for transformations on the individual, organizational, and societal levels. This doctoral thesis aimed to contribute to addressing these challenges by introducing a new construct of integrative transformational leadership reflected by its three dimensions: inspiration (philosophy or why), impact (economics or what), and intelligence (psychology or how). The research objective was to explore the role of integrative transformational leadership and examine its relationship with leader intercultural effectiveness. The theoretical part of the doctoral thesis draws on multiple disciplines and theories, while the empirical part is based on multiple, mixed research methods, multiple data sources and multiple, concurrent triangulation. The findings indicate that all dimensions of integrative transformational leadership positively influence leader intercultural effectiveness, both directly and indirectly through the mediating effect of employee well-being. Impact attracts and, together with intelligence, inspires employees, inspiration increases employee engagement and retention and, together with impact, connects stakeholders, and intelligence contributes to the development at multiple levels. The effectiveness of the overall leadership process of establishing and nurturing reciprocal multistakeholder relationships to create value and positive change can be enhanced by unifying inspiration, impact, and intelligence. The integrative transformational leadership framework is therefore relevant to the advancement of both leadership theory and practice. |
