Abstract:Theoretical background: A large number of women experience a variety of pelvic girdle pain (PGP) problems during pregnancy and after childbirth. The correct diagnosis and the use of appropriate methods and techniques in physiotherapy treatment are very important in this type of problem. Purpose: The aim of this thesis was to review the literature and previous findings to investigate the content of physiotherapy treatment of PGP during pregnancy and postpartum and to summarise current guidelines for physiotherapy treatment of PGP based on evidence-based physiotherapy. Methods: We used descriptive manner of work. We carried out a systematic examination and the analysis of professional and scientific literature in Slovene and English language. We chose literature, that we used in a dissertation, with the help of databases, as they are Google Scholar, PEDro, PubMed, ResearchGate in ScienceDirect. Course of search showed with the help of PRISMA diagram. Results: Studies have shown a number of positive results in alleviating PGP during pregnancy and postnatal care and improving quality of life. A multidisciplinary approach involving different physiotherapeutic methods and techniques is crucial in the management of PGP in pregnancy and postpartum. Discussion: A review of the literature found that the most effective therapeutic interventions for PGP in pregnancy and postpartum include guided exercise, with a focus on stabilisation and pelvic floor muscles, combined with mobilisation, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, shockwave therapy, the Muscle Energy Technique (MET), and the application of Kinesio Taping.
