Abstract:Možganska kap, eden vodilnih vzrokov smrti in invalidnosti po svetu, povzroča hude fizične, kognitivne in čustvene posledice, ki močno vplivajo na kakovost življenja bolnikov in njihovih bližnjih.

Abstract:Stroke, one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, results in severe physical, cognitive, and emotional consequences that significantly impact the quality of life of patients and their families. This thesis examines the effects of physiotherapy focused on strengthening deep core stabilizer muscles on improving trunk control, balance, and gait in stroke patients. A review of the literature highlights the importance of targeted rehabilitation strategies to address functional challenges related to hemiparesis, trunk muscle weakness, difficulties in weight transfer, and reduced postural stability. The thesis emphasizes the role of neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to reorganize neural connections—as crucial for recovery following a stroke. Structural and functional adaptations of the neuromuscular system facilitate partial recovery of lost functions and improved movement coordination. The author analyzes various physiotherapy approaches, including core stabilization exercises, which have been shown to reduce the risk of falls, enhance functional independence, and improve the ability to perform daily activities. Despite existing guidelines for stroke rehabilitation, the thesis points out a lack of standardized protocols for specific physiotherapy techniques aimed at strengthening deep core stabilizer muscles. The literature review underscores the need for further research to develop comprehensive and evidence-based approaches to optimize rehabilitation. The thesis concludes that physiotherapy interventions focused on core muscle strengthening are a crucial component in enhancing the quality of life of stroke survivors and their reintegration into daily life.
