Empirični del temelji na kvalitativni študiji primera v stanovanjski skupini Katapult, kjer so bili izvedeni polstrukturirani intervjuji z zaposlenimi in uporabniki. Naloga s svojimi priporočili prispeva k razvoju etične prakse v psihosocialnem delu in zdravljenju zasvojenosti.

Title:Factors, Challenges, and Strategies for Maintaining a Professional Therapeutic Relationship: A Case Study of the Residential Group Katapult, an Organization for Treating Drug Addiction
Abstract:This master’s thesis explores the phenomenon of non-professional emotional attachment between therapists and clients in psychosocial care, with a particular focus on the context of addiction treatment for illicit drugs. The aim of the study was to examine the factors contributing to the emergence and prevention of non-professional relationships, as well as to understand the impact of emotional dynamics on the quality of the therapeutic process. The theoretical framework addresses the concepts of transference, countertransference, emotional attraction, and the ethical challenges that arise when working with vulnerable populations. Special emphasis is placed on the role of professional boundaries, ethical codes, and institutional safeguarding mechanisms. The empirical part is based on a qualitative case study conducted in the Katapult residential group, where semi-structured interviews were carried out with both staff members and clients. Data analysis was performed using thematic coding and comparative examination of responses from both groups. The research questions focused on the factors, experiences, and strategies influencing the professionalism of the therapeutic relationship; on the perception of emotional and social elements within the relationship; and on the methods of preventing non-professional attachments. Findings indicate that non-professional emotional attachment most often develops in circumstances of prolonged cohabitation, unclear boundaries, and lack of regular supervision. The results highlight the importance of reflective practice, continuous professional education, and institutional support in preventing emotional abuse. With its recommendations, the thesis contributes to the development of ethical practice in psychosocial work and addiction treatment. It emphasizes the need for systematic awareness-raising among professionals, the strengthening of professional boundaries, and the inclusion of supervision as a permanent element of therapeutic work, thus enhancing both client safety and the quality of the therapeutic relationship. The findings also hold broader applicability for other forms of community-based care.
