Abstract:Desetletja nazaj ni bilo takšnega dostopa do tehnologije.

Title:Parental Attitudes Towards the use of Electronic Devices and Play in Children's Free Time
Abstract:Decades ago, there was no such access to technology. Back then, parents spent their free time with their children in a different way, children often played outdoors, exercised in the fresh air, created and spent quality time together. In today's world, where digital technology is an inevitable part of our everyday lives, this is less and less the case. Children are surrounded at every turn by smartphones, tablets, computers and other modern devices that fill their free time and replace free play. Free play, which involves relaxed and free activity, is of paramount importance for the development of the pre-school child. It promotes the development of children's social skills, creativity and imagination, and has a positive impact on cognitive, physical and emotional development. In the empirical part of the thesis, we were interested in the characteristics of children's use of electronic devices, parents' perceptions of the consequences of electronic device use, and how they evaluate children's free time and free play. The sample group consisted of parents of children aged between 1 and 5 years attending the kindergarten La coccinella and the kindergarten Mornarček in the municipality of Piran. 65 parents of children of the same age group in the kindergarten voluntarily participated in the study. We found that on average, children are exposed to electronic devices on a daily basis. Most children first encountered them between the ages of one and two. Parents most often allow their child to use technology in order to keep them busy or distracted while they carry out their own responsibilities. Parents perceive the greatest negative impact of screen use on their child's physical development. Most agree that free play has a positive impact on a child's overall development. Based on the findings of the survey, we suggest that brochures and prevention programmes be developed to raise parents' awareness of the negative impact of electronic devices on their child's holistic development.
