Title:Importance of managing socioeconomics risks in children with bronchiolitis in medical treatment
Abstract:Background: Acute bronchiolitis is one of the most common causes of hospitalization in children under the age of two. Its incidence is often influenced not only by biological factors but also by socioeconomic conditions. Socioeconomic risks represent a broad spectrum of challenges and threats arising from the complex interconnection between socioeconomic factors and children's health. The purpose of this master's thesis was to determine, through a review and analysis of current scientific literature, whether a correlation exists between socioeconomic risks and children diagnosed with bronchiolitis. Methods: A systematic review of domestic and international scientific literature was conducted, covering the period from 2015 to 2025. The databases searched included CINAHL, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, COBISS, and the library and children's department of KIBVS. A total of 29 open-access original scientific articles were included in the analysis. A qualitative content analysis was performed, involving the identification of content codes and categories, and a theoretical framework was developed. Results: The literature analysis identified key socioeconomic risk factors for the development of bronchiolitis: low parental education, poor health literacy, low income, unemployment, financial hardship, overcrowding, inadequate hygiene conditions, housing poverty, minority status, indigenous communities, systemic inequality, exposure to smoking, geographical barriers, and unequal access to healthcare. Discussion: The results of the systematic literature review confirm that socioeconomic risks significantly affect the incidence of acute bronchiolitis in children. This issue is multilayered and manifests on several levels. The findings serve as a foundation for developing clinical pathways and ensuring higher quality and safer healthcare for children with acute bronchiolitis.
