Title:Izkušnje zdravstvenih delavcev s sporazumevanjem z ljudmi iz drugega kulturnega okolja med zdravstveno obravnavo na primarnem nivoju

Abstract:Naša naloga raziskuje izkušnje zdravstvenih delavcev na primarni ravni pri komuniciranju s pacienti, ki prihajajo iz različnih kulturnih okolij. Namen raziskave je opredeliti ključne izzive pri komunikaciji s poudarkom na jezikovnih ovirah in njihovem vplivu na zdravstveno stanje tujcev v Sloveniji. Učinkovita komunikacija je bistvenega pomena za kakovostno zdravstveno varstvo. Jezikovne ovire in kulturne razlike lahko motijo medsebojno razumevanje, vodijo v diagnostične napake, zmanjšujejo zadovoljstvo bolnikov in prispevajo k neenakostim pri dostopu do zdravstvene obravnave in posredno tudi zdravju. Študija temelji na teoriji medkulturne komunikacije. V raziskavi je bila uporabljena kvalitativna raziskovalna zasnova. V prvi fazi priprave magistrskega dela smo sistematično pregledali literaturo, da bi raziskali izvor in vpliv jezikovnih ovir v zdravstvu. Empirične podatke smo zbrali s polstrukturiranimi intervjuji, ki smo jih opravili z osmimi zdravstvenimi delavci, zaposlenimi v velikem mestnem zdravstvenem centru. Uporabljena je bila tematska analiza, ki je dala 36 kod, razvrščenih v 22 podkategorij in sintetiziranih v 8 glavnih kategorij: komunikacija s tujimi pacienti, kulturne razlike, zaupanje in empatija v zdravstveni oskrbi, jezikovni izzivi med zdravstveno obravnavo, izzivi pri zdravstveni obravnavi tujih pacientov, sistemski izzivi pri zdravstveni oskrbi tujcev, sistemski pristop, sistemske rešitve. Zdravstveni delavci se pogosto srečujejo s težavami pri sporazumevanju s tuje govorečimi pacienti, ki vključujejo jezikovne izzive, pomanjkanje dostopa do usposobljenih tolmačev, zanašanje na družinske člane ali digitalna orodja za prevajanje ter kulturne nesporazume. Te ovire ne vplivajo le na verbalno, temveč tudi na neverbalno komunikacijo, kot sta izražanje bolečine ali čustvene stiske. Raziskava je pokazala, kako zelo pomembno je, da zdravstveno osebje med obravnavo zna pristopiti tudi k tistim, ki ne govorijo našega jezika. Zdravstveno osebje pri tem potrebuje več kot le strokovno znanje – pomembne so tudi komunikacijske spretnosti in razumevanje drugačnih kulturnih ozadij. Za ta namen smo zbrali nekaj predlogov, kako lahko s primernim usposabljanjem in boljšimi načini sporazumevanja izboljšamo obravnavo vseh ne glede na njihov primarni sporazumevalni jezikovni kod.

Title:Experiences of Healthcare Workers in Communicating with People from a Different Cultural Environment During Healthcare Treatment at the Primary Level
Abstract:Our study explores the experiences of primary healthcare workers in communicating with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. The aim of the research is to identify key challenges in communication, with a particular focus on language barriers and their impact on the health status of foreigners in Slovenia. Effective communication is essential for high-quality healthcare. Language barriers and cultural differences can hinder mutual understanding, lead to diagnostic errors, reduce patient satisfaction, and contribute to health inequalities. The study is grounded in intercultural communication theory. A qualitative research design was used. The study began with a systematic literature review to examine the origins and effects of language barriers in healthcare. Empirical data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight healthcare professionals working in a large urban health center. Thematic analysis was applied, resulting in 36 codes, organized into 22 subcategories and synthesized into 8 main categories: commnuication with foreign patients, cultural differences, trust and empathy in healthcare, language challenges during medical treatment, challenges in treating foreign patients, systemic challenges in healtcare for foreigners, systemic approach and solutions. Healthcare professionals often face difficulties when communicating with patients who do not speak the local language. Challenges include language obstacles, limited access to trained interpreters, reliance on family members or digital translation tools, and cultural misunderstandings. These barriers affect not only verbal communication but also non-verbal expressions, such as the communication of pain or emotional distress. The findings highlight the importance of being able to effectively approach patients who speak a different language. Healthcare professionals need more than just clinical expertise – communication skills and cultural sensitivity are equally crucial. Based on our findings, we offer several recommendations for improving care through targeted training and more effective communication strategies, ensuring that all patients receive appropriate care, regardless of their language.
