Metode: V raziskavi smo uporabili kvalitativni raziskovalni pristop in deskriptivno metodo. V empiričnem delu smo zbrali, analizirali in sintetizirali primarne in sekundarne vire. Primarne podatke smo pridobili z izvedbo intervjujev, sekundarne pa s pregledom strokovne in znanstvene literature, dostopne v podatkovnih bazah Google Učenjak in dLib. Rezultati: V raziskavi je sodelovalo šest diplomiranih medicinskih sester, ki imajo najmanj eno leto delovne dobe. Ugotovili smo, da večina medicinskih sester enotno razume svoj poklic. Razprava: Vse intervjuvanke imajo podobno mnenje o poklicu in avtonomiji medicinskih sester.

Title:Nursing as a Profession
Abstract:Introduction: The nursing profession is a healthcare occupation that requires higher education, adherence to a code of ethics, and lifelong learning. The core mission of nurses is to promote health, prevent illness, and alleviate patient suffering by providing safe, high-quality, and effective healthcare. A nurse assumes ethical, professional, legal, and material responsibility for their work. They are part of a healthcare team composed of members with different levels of education. In practice, some physicians still do not recognize the nursing profession as autonomous. This profession is also characterized by feminization, which affects its public image, shaped by social perceptions, individual experiences, and stereotypes. The aim of this research is to explore the nursing profession as a professional field. Methods: In the study, we employed a qualitative research approach and a descriptive method. In the empirical part, we collected, analyzed, and synthesized both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were obtained through interviews, while secondary data were gathered by reviewing professional and scientific literature available through the Google Scholar and dLib databases. Results: Six graduate nurses with at least one year of work experience participated in the study. We found that most of the nurses share a similar understanding of their profession. Discussion: All interviewees share a similar opinion about the nursing profession and the autonomy of nurses. They all recognize the issue of feminization within the profession. They express a desire for more male staff due to the physically demanding nature of the work. Most interviewees feel that doctors tend to underestimate the nursing profession. One interviewee notes that this attitude is gradually improving over time. The interviewees believe that society does not fully understand the complexity and importance of the profession. They wish for greater respect, better working conditions, and appropriate compensation.
