Title:Effects of Functional Magnetic Stimulation on Urinary and Fecal Incontinence
Abstract:Incontinence is a frequently overlooked issue that significantly affects and individual’s quality of life. In modern physiotherapy practice, there is an increasing emphasis on conservative treatment methods, among which FMS has stood out in recent years. It is non-invasive, painless, and patient-friendly form of treatment. The aim of the thesis was to examine the effectiveness of FMS based on a review of scientific literature and to determine whether this method is effective in reducing the symptoms of incontinence. The main objective was to present the fundamentals of functional magnetic stimulation, describe the most common types of incontinence, and analyse the effectiveness of FMS. We hypothesized that FMS is effective in reducing incontinence symptoms. A total of nine studies were analysed, most of which were randomized controlled trials, with methodological quality rated as moderate to high. Most studies found that FMS is effective, especially for treating stress urinary incontinence in women. Furthermore, patients were found to tolerate the therapy well, with side effects being rare. Based on collected data, the hypothesis was confirmed. It was also found that, for long-term effect after completion of FMS therapy, it is recommended to continue preforming pelvic floor muscle exercises. FMS holds significant potential in physiotherapy, as it provides opportunities for individualized, effective, and safe treatment that can significantly improve the quality of life for patients with incontinence.
