Abstract:Introduction: Recently, we have been noticing an increase in allergic conditions such as food, insect bites, and medications. An allergic reaction can lead to anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal for a person. We wondered whether people even know that they are allergic to a certain allergen and whether they react to an allergic reaction. How would they react if they or a fellow human being experienced anaphylactic shock. Methods: The empirical research was conducted among the residents of the village of Kupšinci in May 2025. We used a quantitative research method. The data were collected using a standardized survey questionnaire. The data were processed using Microsoft Excel. Results: 129 residents of the village of Kupšinci participated in the study. We found that 49.6% of them have one of the allergies. The study also showed that in the event of an allergic reaction, more than 50% of residents would know how to respond correctly. We also found that in the event of anaphylactic shock, 82% of residents would only call the emergency medical number 112. Discussion: The findings show that the residents of the village of Kupšinci have allergies that are comparable to the frequency and types of allergies in other studies. Most allergy sufferers would know how to respond correctly to an allergic reaction. However, we detected a greater problem in the event that a person experienced anaphylactic shock. In this case, the vast majority would only call the emergency medical number, but would not take any other action until emergency medical assistance arrived. Therefore, we recommend that a consultation be held with residents on the topic of education regarding measures to take in the event of anaphylactic shock.
