Abstract:Uvod: Mišično-skeletne poškodbe so najbolj razširjene poškodbe v vojaškem okolju, ki niso posledica bojnih nalog. Predstavili smo najpogostejše vrste poškodb in vzroke zanje. Razprava in zaključek: Mišično-skeletne poškodbe v Slovenski vojski so pogoste in predstavljajo pomemben zdravstveni in organizacijski izziv. Najpogosteje so posledica rekreativne dejavnosti in vojaškega usposabljanja.

Abstract:Introduction: Musculoskeletal injuries are the most common injuries in the military environment that are not the result of combat activities. Due to the nature of military work and the demanding training required, nearly every soldier experiences a musculoskeletal injury at least once during their career. To prevent or reduce the occurrence of these injuries, it is crucial to ensure proper training methods for recruits, a gradual progression of their exercise routines, and prompt as well as professional intervention when an injury occurs. Purpose: The purpose of this master's thesis was to examine the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries resulting from training and military conditioning exercises among members of the Slovenian Armed Forces. We aimed to identify the most common types of injuries and their causes. Methods: We used the descriptive method for description and summarization, and the compilation and comparative methods to compare findings from existing domestic and foreign professional and scientific literature available in databases and libraries. In the empirical part, we applied the method of data analysis. Results: The study was based on reports of the Occupational Safety and Health Department between 2020 and 2024. The analysed reports contained data on the number of injuries, their causes, types of injuries, and the affected body parts. The reports also provided information on absenteeism and disability. Discussion and Conclusion: Musculoskeletal injuries in the Slovenian Armed Forces are frequent and represent a significant health and organizational challenge. They most often result from recreational activities and military training. The most common injuries are to the lower limbs, with the knee and ankle being the most affected. We found that the Slovenian Armed Forces have a deficient injury recording system. Musculoskeletal injuries have a significant impact on the health of its members and on its operational capability. The consequences are reflected in absenteeism, longer rehabilitation, disability, and additional costs that burden both the individual and the organization.
