Abstract:Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are among the most common injuries in sports that involve jumping, rapid changes of direction, and sudden stops, such as handball. These injuries can lead to prolonged absence from training and competition, often requiring surgical intervention and extensive rehabilitation. Due to long-term consequences, risk of reinjury, and impact on an athlete’s career, injury prevention has become a crucial part of conditioning. Identifying biomechanical, muscular, and environmental risk factors is essential for understanding the mechanisms of injury. Proper movement technique, strengthening of muscles around the knee, especially the thigh and gluteal muscles and exercises focused on balance and landing control are key components of effective prevention. Feedback tools, such as video analysis, also play an important role in helping athletes improve their technique and reduce mechanical stress on the knee. The purpose of this thesis was to examine, through a literature review, the effectiveness of preventive programmes aimed at reducing ACL injury risk in handball players. Special attention was given to the practical implementation of these programs and the factors influencing their success. Two research questions were formulated and addressed in the discussion section. The set objectives were successfully achieved.
