Abstract:Znanstvena monografija obravnava zgodovinski pregled razvoja Balkana od prazgodovinskega obdobja do današnjih dni.

Abstract:The scientific monograph deals with a historical overview of the development of the Balkans from prehistoric times to the present day. Although it does not stand on the Balkanocentric position, the author systematically defends the thesis throughout the monograph that the Balkans are historically a key pillar of European culture in both a social and political sense. It is an area of the first permanent settlement in Europe, which even before that demonstrates the existence of a "culture" that Europe today often denies to the Balkans, forgetting that the Barbarians were primarily called peoples of the northern part of continental Europe. Due to the topic's extensiveness, the author presents history as an overview with emphasis on certain intriguing events/periods. The key point is the conclusion that whatever happens to the Balkans happens to Europe, and that every time Europe overlooked this fact, the latter paid dearly.
Keywords:Balkans, Balkan culture, Balkan peoples, Yugoslavia, nationalism
