Anketiranci so v večini o okužbi s hepatitisom C dobro seznanjeni, imajo zadostno znanje o simptomih okužbe in poznajo poti prenosa. Znanje o preventivnih ukrepih je okrnjeno. O protokolih ob izpostavljenosti imajo študenti dobro znanje.

Abstract:Theoretical point: The hepatitis C virus is a virus that attacks liver cells. Acute infection in 70-80% of cases leads to chronic infection, which is considered one of the leading causes of cirrhosis and liver cancer. Hepatitis C is transmitted through contact with infected blood and poses a risk to healthcare providers, including nursing students. Goal: The aim of the thesis is to determine the level of awareness of nursing students about hepatitis C infection and their readiness to work in a clinical environment. Method: We used a descriptive method of work for the theoretical part. The used literature is obtained from databases: PubMed, Google Scholar and ScienceDirect. The empirical part of the research is quantitative, in the form of a questionnaire. Results: The sample includes 160 nursing students in Maribor. Most of the respondents are well informed about hepatitis C infection, have sufficient knowledge about the symptoms of infection and know the routes of transmission. Knowledge about preventive measures is limited. Students have good knowledge of exposure protocols. Their opinion on the importance of education of healthcare personnel on the topic of hepatitis C is also positive. Discussion: We disproved several hypotheses in the research. Among them, the hypothesis that students have insufficient knowledge about hepatitis C was refuted, the hypothesis that they have insufficient knowledge about the symptoms of infection, and we also refuted the hypothesis that students have insufficient knowledge about protocols for exposure to the hepatitis C virus. We confirmed the hypothesis that students know the routes of transmission of the infection. We also partially confirmed the hypothesis that the majority of surveyed students do not know about preventive measures.
