Title:Quality of life of patients after a stroke
Abstract:Theoretical Background: Stroke is considered one of the most common diseases and causes of disability, regardless of age, gender, or race, and can result in death. However, the disease does not only affect the patient but also places a heavy burden on their relatives and the healthcare system. The purpose of this master's thesis is to study, research, and describe stroke based on professional and scientific literature and to use a questionnaire to obtain information on how stroke affects quality of life. Methods: A quantitative nonexperimental method with statistical data analysis was used to prepare the master's thesis. The data for the purpose of the research was collected through a survey. The sample included individuals who had suffered a stroke. Participation was voluntary and anonymous. The survey was sent by email to the Slovenian Association of Patients with Cerebrovascular Disease. Results: The results showed that stroke significantly affects quality of life, particularly in terms of mobility and emotional well-being, with individuals who have suffered multiple strokes having poorer outcomes and lower levels of independence. No significant differences in physical pain were found between the sexes. The impact of age on quality of life cannot be reliably confirmed. Discussion: A stroke significantly reduces quality of life on a physical, psychological, and social level, as it causes movement disorders, reduced independence, cognitive problems, and frequent feelings of depression. Rehabilitation plays a key role in improving functionality and overall well-being. The impact of gender and age is not entirely clear, as even older individuals can achieve significant improvement with appropriate, individually tailored treatment.
