Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Za ohranjanje našega zdravja tekom življenja je med ključnimi dejavniki zdrava prehrana.

Title:EFFECTS OF HEALTH EDUCATION ON UNTERSTANDING AND PROMOTING HEALTHY EATING HABITS
Abstract:Theoretical background: A healthy diet is, of course, one of the key factors in maintaining our health throughout our lives. Despite readily available health guidelines, numerous studies show that adults' understanding of healthy eating is unevenly developed. The purpose of this thesis was to explore how adults understand healthy eating and how health education influences the development of understanding about healthy eating. Methodology: The study was based on a qualitative research approach. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with six adult respondents. The questions related to their experiences with health education, their understanding of healthy eating and dietary habits, factors influencing food choices, and their opinions on improving nutritional knowledge. Their answers were compiled into summary tables and each of them was also described. Results: Most of the interviewees first encountered health education in primary school. They consider it to be very important and useful. For most of them, it contributed to a better understanding of healthy eating and had a positive impact on their eating habits. For most interviewees, healthy eating is the key to well-being and is linked to a balanced diet and physical activity. To assess whether a food is healthy or not, they refer to the composition of the food, the degree of processing, its origin, and the nutritional values indicated on the packaging. Interviewees often choose to buy healthy foods, especially fruit and vegetables. They also report that they have made specific changes after health education, such as drinking more water and reducing their intake of sugar and sweetened drinks. They also mention eating more home-cooked food and meals. They cite internal motivation, family influence, illness, and society in general as key factors in changing their eating habits. They also emphasized the need for more practical and interactive education. They are also aware of the importance of early education. Discussion: The findings of the study are consistent with those of foreign studies, which show that nutritional knowledge has a significant impact on dietary habits. However, it does not necessarily guarantee dietary changes. The results also confirm that adults are well aware of the nutritional principles of a healthy diet, but differences in the implementation of a healthy diet remain, which is also consistent with the literature. Health education also plays an important role in shaping positive attitudes, especially when tailored to the individual. The study emphasizes a holistic approach and its importance, which, in addition to knowledge, also includes motivation, social support, and food accessibility.
