Abstract:Živimo v svetu, kjer nas vsak dan preko različnih medijev (knjig, televizije, interneta, časopisov, revij, radia) doseže veliko število informacij. Problemi z informacijami in mediji so vedno obstajali.

Abstract:We live in a world, where enormous amount of information reaches us daily via different media-books, television, internet, newspapers, magazines, radio. Their number is increasing on yearly level, so today, it is even more important than ever, to talk about media and itsʼ influence on society and almost every aspect of individualsʼ life. It is evident that the media play an important role in our lives, media organisations keep this in mind and they continue with the process of enabling more and more information. Problems with information and media always existed. At first, the biggest problem was how to gain information and enable people to access the information. We shifted from one extreme to another with the growth of mass media in the previous century. Today, we have to protect ourselves from too extensive amount of information, media spectacle and consumerism. The purpose of the masterʼs thesis is not to criticise the media, but to explain why the media literacy is urgent and necessary. If we want to offer media education to the widest circle, we have to supply it in a wider spectre of programs that would have a basic goal in common-an individual that is media literate and critical, that is capable of access, analysis and creation of media contents or messages. For, active citizenship does not mean to not to participate in the election and public deciding, to be growing apart from the problems of society and to close ones eyes, that a wider gap is forming between those who have and those who havenʼt, between those who know and can and those who donʼt know and canʼt. It is necessary to find the solution. The goal of this masterʼs thesis is to cause interest and to encourage responsible institutions to develop media literacy on all levels of society and to pass proposition for introduction of the completion of the curriculum into already existent forms of education. We will offer some themes and proposals in consideration, also to further research on this field.
