Abstract:My thesis consists of sharing the meaning of grandparents in our young families days and the rights that grandparents have toward their grandchildren. In the beginning of the thesis we will going to learn what is the meaning of the family itself. The family is the base of human society and we cannot tell for shore when the family started, we can only assume that the first family was already in nomadic groups. Back then, they are showing to us family styles. We can say that the families have different styles. Families have their own jobs. We can divide jobs on emotional, biological-reproductive, socially-cultural. The thesis will show us the difference between the family once and our days family. My thesis is more focused on the role of grandparents in life of their grandchildren. Emotional attachment between grandchild and grandparent is big and mostly depends on fact how many times they hear or see each other. The role of grandparent didnʼt change much thru time, because grandparent role was and still is raising and taking care of grandchildren. But our Slovenian legislation is not favourable since grandparents have no legitimate rights to grandchildren. This will change in short time in favour to grandparents, because the proposal of new law was presented in Slovenija. Always has been a rule and this will not change, that the grandparents have a special role in life of their grandchildren and why deprive them this value.
