Abstract:The diploma thesis is entitled Whether the right to life also involves the right to die, which points to the question of the arbitrariness of the patient, as well as autonomy of deciding about their own death. Every citizen of Slovenia has a constitutional right to life, which means he can do whatever he wants with his life, but nowhere has he written down the right to die the way he wants. Therefore, I must carefully examine whether we are entitled to euthanasia. The right to die indicates to the use of the Euthanasia Institute, which means that if the right to euthanasia belongs to us so does the right to die. Overall the thesis addresses the issue of euthanasia and its legalization. I found out that euthanasia is still a taboo subject today in many places around the world. Most of the country did not commit to euthanasia, as society is still not prepared to do a step against legalization of euthanasia. Focusing on Slovenian society, I have realized that passive euthanasia is permissible under certain conditions, but in practice it rarely turns out to be practiced and used. All other types of euthanasia are banned or prosecuted. Slovenia has not yet been prepared to legalize euthanasia and solve one big problematic question.
