Abstract: | The changing demographic composition of the population with a rapidly increasing share of older people, both in Europe and in Slovenia, is increasingly highlighting the problem of living in the third age. Providing adequate housing for the elderly, which will provide quality living in old age and which, at the same time, will represent a minimal financial burden for both residents and the state, is a pressing social challenge. Sometimes it is possible to provide a comfortable and secure accommodation only with certain adjustments to the apartment. Sometimes, however, such adjustments may not be possible or rational for various reasons. Although most of the elderly people want to live in their home environment, in such cases it is reasonable to consider relocation as well. Another accommodation, which is more adapted to the needs of the elderly, can significantly increase the quality of life even in the period of old age. The main purpose of the master's thesis was to determine the level of awareness of the middle generation (age group from 40 to 65 years) about the importance of adequate living conditions in old age and to determine, on the one hand, the wishes and, on the other hand, on the basis of the foreseen real possibilities, the actual possibilities of the middle generation for living in the third age. Based on the conducted survey, it was found that Slovenian society is insufficiently aware of the importance of timely planning of an adequate housing for the old age, that it is not sufficiently informed about the various available options, but also that the majority wants to spend their third age at home. The results showed that the most desirable form of living is to stay in a rural house. The wishes and the foreseeable real possibilities are largely consistent. The most important reason for the discrepancies is the need for the security of living. |
