Abstract:Data collection of multiple constructs from a singular source in regards to studies of society and behaviour is common practice. To enable the research goal we need valid and reliable data, which can lead to incorrect, inaccurate or even bias results. The goal of this master thesis was to research the effect of common method bias in studies of digital literacy. Analytical methods, which help us test for common method variance and consequentially for common method bias, were presented and applied in the thesis. In the data collected, provided by the European Commission regarding the use of ICT in education, we have concluded that the bias is present in the common method variance. We believe, that when it comes to the education of digital literacy, at least two measuring instruments should be used, the existing self-evaluation using a survey questionnaire and an actual ICT usability test.
