Title:Problems of ageing in Slovenia in terms of physiotherapy
Abstract:Ageing is a biological process inside the human body that is shown through the stages of weakening body functions and with this reduction of a person’s ability to maintain their body in balance. When a person grows old, his or her medical state should be treated from different perspectives, since elderly are much more sensitive and susceptible to specific stimuluses. Therefore geriatrics – branch of intern medicine – analyzes, cures older people and prevents worsening of their diseases. On the other hand, gerontology, which is mainly research branch of biology and sociology, tries to view elderly from all perspectives and tries to apply research material to politics, society and all the others spheres of everyday life. In this assignment, we have presented the importance of specialized treatment for the elderly and the shortcomings that can be found in clinical and rehabilitation treatments of elderly in our country – lack of staff and institutions that would provide them adequate education and knowledge. The results have shown how superficial the perception of the elderly and of the aging process is, and how due to the decline of gerontological and geriatric research in Slovenia, the elderly are not represented as equally treated patients. This assignment also presents the gap between the number of patients in need of specific (geriatric) rehabilitation and number of specialists that are able to treat them.
