Abstract:Čeprav uporaba psihedeličnih snovi sega že v obdobje »primitivnih« družb v vseh kulturah, večini še vedno predstavlja tabu. Prvi del zajema teoretični pregled literature, s katero smo osvetlili ključne pojme psihedelikov, predvsem v povezavi s psihoterapijo. V empiričnem delu naloge smo uporabili kvalitativno metodologijo.

Abstract:Although the use of psychedelics goes back to the age of ‘primitive’ societies in all cultures, they are still mostly seen as taboo. For this reason, the aim of the thesis was to determine the positive and negative effects of psychedelic substances used in the treatment. We explored how people take psychedelics for treatment purposes and what are the potential risks of such therapy. The thesis comprises two parts. The first part gives a theoretical overview of the literature highlighting the key notions of psychedelics, particularly in connection with psychotherapy. However, qualitative methodology was used in the empirical part of the thesis. The data was obtained through a semi-structured interview conducted with six individuals who have used psychedelic substances on several occasions. This allowed us to better understand the effects of psychedelics from personal experience. We found that the psychedelic experience takes place on a comprehensive level where the users enter the subconscious, which is the therapeutic value of psychedelics. The experiences can nevertheless be very unpleasant and hard. In order to achieve positive effects, psychedelics must be administered within a controlled environment with an expert by their side, focusing on integration. The latter is very important due to a potentially problematic presentation of visions experienced by the users under the influence of psychedelics. They can interpret these visions in their own minds in a way that is most appropriate for them, but the real message that was conveyed during the psychedelic experience may be distorted.
