Title:A QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF POSTURE IN FLUTE PLAYERS
Abstract:Playing the flute is a special skill that more and more children are opting for, but through learning it requires a large number of hours invested also in practice. This also increases the time spent as children and later adolescents in the posture required by the flute and thus leads to the gradual asymmetrical development of muscle groups. In our research graduate thesis, we tested nineteen flutists, whose results we compared with existing scientific studies. We found that the posture of flutists differs from the posture of individuals who do not play the flute, and that they have the presence of body asymmetry, which we did not label as specific. A greater presence of asymmetry after examination of the results was seen in the inclination of the scapula, which, however, did not prove to be significant. Significant asymmetry, however, was present at the angle of the cervical curve and the anterior inclination of the pelvis. The deviation of the posture of flutists from the rest of the population who do not play the flute was therefore present in most of the body parts we considered. With this research, we want to make flutists aware of their posture towards possible avoidance of musculoskeletal disorders, which is described by many literatures as the main problem of musicians.
