Abstract:Unresolved conflict in the workplace blocks communication and has impact on productivity, performance of employees and company’s operating results. If we approach the conflict properly and use suitable communication, to make sure that it does not occur or at least we mitigate it, the consequences from different views can be beneficial for the company. The same applies for intercultural conflict too. It can complicate communication between managers and associates in a multicultural work environment, if the manager is not aware of the cultural background of employees. Hence, in our thesis we focus on the successful communication between managers and employees in intercultural business in the U.S. and Slovenia. The first part of the thesis is bringing the theoretical background, whereas in the second, empirical part, we have compared and interpret the results of focus groups, which were performed in the service companies in the U.S. and Slovenia. The participators in our study have similar strategy of communication with foreigners; they mainly emphasize patience and positivity in communication, and talk about the importance of foreign language skills. This is also the basis for addressing conflicts between cultures efficiently, thereby it contributes to good organizational climate in the company and the good performance of it.
