Abstract:Recruitment and selection process of staff in construction companies in Kosovo result with many challenges and difficulties that the Human Resources Department face directly. This study presents the findings with qualitative research conducted with some of the construction companies that operate in the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the challenges that managers of the Human Resources Department face during the recruitment and selection of adequate staff. Challenges identified in this research include; brain drain, lack of skills and expertise in the labor market, unemployment and turnover of employment. Another challenge that is worth mentioning is the high cost of recruitment. Nowadays, some of the small construction companies in Kosovo are already competing with the large companies in the market, which are in position to better absorb the costs related to recruitment process and are also capable to pay better wages. The use of information technology in advertising, lack of proper planning of Human Resources, as well as the geographical distribution of jobs are other challenges that companies face during the selection of employees. Therefore, we emphasize that these challenges have led to a lack of transparency during the recruitment process, favoritism of incompetent personel both in external recruitment and internal promotions and increased untrustworthiness among the employees. Construction companies can make more realistic decisions in selection of candidates if there is a better management of the process. Therefore, proper planning in Human Resources, preparation of accurate job descriptions, as well as given priority to the competencies needed to achieve the objectives of the company, implies a better management
