Abstract:V nalogi je predstavljena analiza osebnostnih profilov slovenskih vrhunskih šahistov.

Abstract:The paper presents the analysis of personal profiles of Slovenian elite chess players. The main goal was to determine what the personality traits of elite Slovenian chess players are and whether they differ from the general population. The research included the measurement of personality traits according to the Big Five model, self-image, self-esteem and its sources and optimism. 5 female and 5 male Slovenian elite chess players (ELO over 2400 M and over 2100 Ž) were included. In the form of short personal profiles, we presented selected personality traits of elite Slovenian chess players and tried to find out whether there is a typical personal profile of chess player. Furthermore, we checked whether male and female chess players differ in the selected personality traits. According to our results, a typical chess player is a person who, according to the dimensions of the Big Five, does not stand out from the general population, has a good self-image and is inclined to a higher self-esteem in the field of competence. He thinks that he is a good, intelligent, responsible and extroverted person who could be less sensitive and slightly more decisive. His self-esteem comes primarily from competing with others and God's love does not have much influence on his self-esteem. He is neither an optimist nor a pessimist and moderately hopeful. The results of the gender comparison have shown that men feel more capable and effective than women. We did not find any other gender differences.
