Obstajajo različne vsebine obsesij in različni načini izvajanja kompulzij. S pomočjo kompulzij oseba nevtralizira anksioznost in sprosti napetost. KVT in nekatere tehnike tega pristopa sem v magistrski nalogi podrobno opisala. V raziskovalnem delu pa sem predstavila, kako kognitivno vedenjski terapevti v terapiji obravnavajo kliente z OKM.

Abstract:In this Master's thesis it is written about an obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), which can be developed among men and women. Over the past decades, it has been shown to occur in 2 – 3% of the world population. OCD can be found in all cultures. It can start with children, adolescents or young adults. It develops gradually and starts with few symptoms, which are constantly increasing over time. The course of OCD is usually chronic with improvements and declines. The essential symptoms of OCD are intrusive, unwanted, repetitive compulsive thoughts - obsessions and rituals - compulsions. Compulsions can occur in person's mind or be seen as rituals (washing, cleaning, counting ...). There are various obsessions and different ways of performing compulsions. With the help of compulsions, the person neutralize anxiety and relax the tension. OCD is a result of inadequate control of anxiety and is associated with the functioning of brain and affects thinking, feeling and behavior. For OCD treatment is used psychotherapy, which affects the anatomical changes in the brain, and treatment with antidepressants. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most suitable for the treatment of OCD, in particular the exposure technique and prevention of response is the most successful. The father of cognitive behavioral therapy is Aaron Beck. CBT helps people to understand that during the event and final feelings and actions lies people's opinion or their beliefs. Thoughts, opinions and the meanings assigned to the event create emotional and behavioral responses. CBT and some techniques of this approach are described in detail in this Master's thesis. In thesis research part it is presented how cognitive behavioral therapists treat clients with OCD.
