Abstract:V doktorski disertaciji predstavljamo procese in mehanizme, ki v kontekstu strukturne in akterske dimenzije globalnega trenda individualizacije prispevajo k mednarodni širitvi joge. Omenjene procese in mehanizme prikazujemo v obliki konceptualnega okvira, s katerim smo operacionalizirali ključne koncepte in ideje proučevanega fenomena. Za verifikacijo konceptualnega okvira smo oblikovali pet raziskovalnih hipotez. Podatke in informacije, s katerimi smo testirali omenjene hipoteze, smo zbrali s spletno anketo in poglobljenimi intervjuji. Iz izidov statistične analize, usmerjene kvalitativne analize vsebine in testiranja raziskovalnih hipotez smo ugotovili, da ključne elemente proučevanega fenomena predstavljajo: (1) strukturna dimenzija individualizacije, oziroma institucionalno okolje, mediji in družbene mreže, (2) akterska dimenzija individualizacije, oziroma preplet refleksivnega mišljenja, znanja, izobrazbe in veščin na ravni posameznika, (3) kvantitativna širitev joge, oziroma rast števila vadečih, rast trga storitev in izdelkov povezanih z jogo ter zavzemanje dodatnega družbenega prostora, (4) kvalitativna širitev joge, oziroma spremembe v trializmu telo-um-duh, refleksivnih identitetah in življenjskih poteh vadečih.

Abstract:This doctoral thesis presents the processes and mechanisms contributing to the international spreading of yoga in the context of the structural and action dimension of the global trend of individualization. The processes and mechanisms are shown as a conceptual framework used to operationalise the key concepts and ideas of the studied phenomenon. In order to verify the conceptual framework, five research hypotheses were formulated. They were tested using data and information collected with an online survey and in-depth interviews. A study population was used for the online survey, while the in-depth interviews were conducted with a dedicated sample of well-informed individuals. In the cultural geographical sense, the study was limited to the area of Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. The statistical analysis results, directed qualitative content analysis, and testing of the research analyses showed that the key elements of the studied phenomenon are: (1) the structural dimension of individualization, i.e. the institutional environment, the media, and social networks; (2) the action dimension of individualization, i.e. the combination of reflexive thinking, knowledge, education, and skills of the individual; (3) the quantitative spreading of yoga, i.e. the increase in the number of yoga practitioners, growth of the market of yoga-related products and services, and the expansion of yoga into new social spaces; (4) the qualitative spreading of yoga, i.e. the changes in the body-mind-spirit model, reflexive identities, and life paths of yoga practitioners
