Abstract:Diplomska naloga se nanaša na medije, medijsko pismenost in vplivi teh dveh dejavnikov na predšolskega otroka s poudarkom na vpliv medijev na nakupno obnašanje otrok in staršev.

Abstract:The diploma thesis relates to the media, media literacy and the impact of these two factors on preschool children with an emphasis on media influence on the buying behaviour of children and parents. In the theoretical part, we clarified and defined the wider context of the media impact on young children, both in educational institutions and at home. We also included the strategies defining the media literacy at a national and European level since we wanted to underline that the society, as such, recognizes the importance of media influences on people. If we want to establish a knowledge-based society, it is necessary to educate people at all age levels about media. Only a media literate parent can confidently and qualitatively transfer his/hers knowledge to his/hers children. The empirical part of the diploma thesis with a quantitative survey performed among preschool children parents gives us the answers to the raised research questions, namely: Does the media influence on preschool children increase with their age and if there is a link between the media time use and parents as well as their children, and how the media influences the (buying) behaviour of children and their parents? In addition, we asked the parents about their opinion on the impact of television content on children and about their monitoring and reflection role, as well as restrictions about television content for children.
