Abstract:Osamosvojitvena vojna leta 1991 je Slovencem prinesla težko pričakovano novo samostojno državo Republiko Slovenijo, po kateri je slovenski narod dolgo časa hrepenel.

Abstract:The independence war in 1991 brought the Slovenians a long expected new independent state of the Republic of Slovenia, after which slovenian nation longed for a long time. The role of actors – Slovenian police (milica), Territorial Defense, politics, civil society, that took part in the ten-day war for Slovenian independence is well known, but among them is the role of Slovenian hunters that anyone hardly knows about. In the territory of Slovenia organized hunting began already in the 19th century, Slovenian hunting club was founded in 1907, which has developed over the years into the Slovenian Hunting Federation, which is still a lead organization in the field of hunting. Hunting in Slovenia is regulated by the Wildlife and Hunting Act (Zakon o divjadi in lovstvu), which was adopted in 2004. Since the adoption of the new law, the Hunting Federation of Slovenia has been composed of individual Regional Hunting Operators' Associations, Hunting Families and Hunting Associations, which now act only as societies. In the diploma thesis, I investigated the role played by Slovenian hunters in the independence war for Slovenia. Individual members of hunting families participated in the war in the formations of the Slovenian police, the Territorial Defense or Civil Defense, but many of them used their skills and knowledge of the field to help other actors only as hunters. Hunters represented an indispensable source of information about current events, they collaborated with Slovenian police and Territorial defense to protect the facilities and with the transport of weapons. Hunting huts and other hunting facilities were used by the Slovenian police and the Territorial defense for secret weapons hiding, as well as temporary accommodation for recruited soldiers.
