Abstract:Predmet diplomske naloge so spletna socialna omrežja in njihov vpliv na medosebne odnose mladih.

Abstract:The subject of the diploma thesis is online social networks and their impact on interpersonal relationships of young people. Our study aimed to determine whether young people know and use online social networks, their motives for these networks, and how online social networks affect their interpersonal relationships in the real world. The thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part presents the key concepts, such as online social networks, computer-mediated communication and interpersonal relations. The theoretical part is concluded with a presentation of some findings of previous researches carried out in the field of Internet use among young people. The empirical part presents the results and key findings of the quantitative and qualitative research. From the research that was carried out we come to the conclusion that the empirical findings are consistent with the theoretical ones. We found out that young people are very familiar with online social networks, since almost all of them are users of online social networks, and these networks are commonly used to kill time and to maintain the already established interpersonal relationships in real life. However, despite the great use of online social networks, the results of the quantitative research shows that today’s youth are still aware of the fact that the personal contact is of better quality and more authentic, because it allows the true and genuine interpersonal relationships which cannot be provided by online social networks. After doing the qualitative research, we came to the conclusion that online social networks both positively and negatively affect adolescents' interpersonal relationships; the effect depends on how an individual uses these networks.
