Abstract:For some vital retirees, going to a nursing home is a joy, because in addition to good nutrition and medical care, a nursion home is a fun and social place where they can share their own life experiences with other retirees, attend various joint events and performances, they communicate with each other and help each other and they don’t feel lonely like most retirees that procrastinate going home. However, on the other hand, in addition to all the convenient and organized functions of nursing homes, going to a good nursing home is a financial problem for some retirees, as the prices of care in categories are quite high, which means that with living in a nursing home basic goods and services, the monthly care of one retiree may amount to more than his monthly pension. Therefore, in a research interview with several retirees from the Vič-Rudnik public nursing home, we researched ways to pay for care based on the same guiding questions about the financial situation and prices in nursing homes and how satisfied they are with care for which they deduct up to € 900 per month. Through the research, we found that the prices of accommodation differ significantly depending on the number of beds in the room, rooms with a balcony and rooms with a private bathroom, where mostly independent people live, while people who are immobile and need more help and supervision live in multi-bed rooms and consequently deduct a couple of euros less for daily living costs than others. Residents' experience with living in a multi-bed room are not pleasant, so most healthy and active retirees opt for a stand-alone room later, where they pay more, but are satisfied. If the pension alone is not enough to cover all the costs they get help from relatives or the municipality.
