Abstract:Doživljanje varnosti in svobode sta psihološki potrebi vsakega posameznika in tesno povezani z duševnim zdravjem. Z uporabo polstrukturiranih intervjujev smo dobili vpogled v zgodbe brezdomcev in v njihova življenja.

Abstract:The perception of feeling safe and free is a psychological need of every individual. In today's society, they represent the foundation for people's mental health. This master's thesis presents the field of experiencing safety and freedom and analyzes their interconnection in a unique social marginal group of the population; the homeless people who live in a homeless shelter. History confirms that the homeless are always present in our environment. Homelessness is not a new phenomenon. As part of the research, we found out how safe and free homeless people feel in the circumstances in which they find themselves, and how the feeling of safety and freedom in this population are interconnected. In our study, we used a qualitative methodology to analyze the factors that significantly influence The perception of feeling safe and free in the homeless population. We anonymously interviewed ten people, eight men and two women aged 34 to 78 years. All respondents are accommodated in the shelter from a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 16 years. Using semi-structured interviews, we gained insight into the stories of the homeless and their lives. We were interested in questions about experiencing safety and freedom and what issues and hardships homeless people face. We got an insight into their lives and what this shelter offers them. With the research, we approached this particular marginal social group of the population. Through the eyes of a journalist we got an insight into how homelessness are viewed by the general public. By this research and presentation of our findings, we want to bring homelessness closer to the general public and destigmatize this vulnerable population, and pass on the obtained results to those who work with this vulnerable population for a better understanding of it. We gained in-depth insight into the homeless person’s profile, into who a homeless person is, what matters to him, what confuses him, what scares him.
