Abstract:Procrastination is a common and widespread problem associated with a range of negative outcomes in different areas of life, that occur when people are confronted with tasks they do not like and want to avoid. It is especially common in the student population, who most often procrastinate when writing seminar papers and studying for the exam. Although individuals know that procrastination is harmful to them, they cannot help themselves and next time they are in a similar situation they procrastinate again. The master's thesis investigates academic procrastination or procrastination among students. In the theoretical part of the thesis, we addressed important areas of procrastination. Thus, we defined what procrastination is, how it differs from active procrastination and what its prevalence. We have also identified academic procrastination, what are its possible causes and its consequences. The last chapter is devoted to possible solutions or possible ways to stop procrastinating. The second part or empirical part of the master's thesis is based on qualitative research, in which we wanted to find out how academic procrastination affects a student's academic performance and what are the main causes of procrastination and its consequences. The results obtained through interviews have shown us that procrastination is a complex problem involving a range of cognitive, behavioral and emotional components. Although procrastination does not necessarily result in lower academic achievements, it is common for all procrastinators to suffer from anxiety, feelings of guilt, and higher levels of stress.
