Title:Home-based geriatric physiotherapy
Abstract:Physiotherapy treatment (PT) at home ensures the continuity and comprehensive care of the individual. It is intended for physically and severely disabled, who are most likely to be elderly, whose share in population is increasing from year to year. It has been proven that this is the age group with the most health problems, many of which can also have multiple chronic diseases at the same time. The advantages of PT at home lie in the fact that rehabilitation takes place in a familiar environment, in contact with relatives and where the level of functioning is the highest. Due to the form of work, the treatment is more individual and adjusted to each individual accordingly. The purpose of this diploma work is to present the problem of ageing, which the whole world is facing, and to present in detail one of the more possible solutions for the rehabilitation of older people. Our goal is also to show the advantages of PT at home, to research its prevalence in Slovenia and around the world and to prove the importance of involving relatives in physiotherapy treatment. With the results of our survey questionnaire, interview and other clinical studies, we came to the conclusion that PT at home is an effective method in the rehabilitation of the elderly. In our research, we proved that PT at home increases independence in daily activities, locomotion and improves the walking ability of the elderly. We used a survey to determine the level of satisfaction of the elderly, which was very high in our case. We also proved the importance in educating relatives and their involvement in the treatment.
