Abstract:V okviru diplomske naloge smo z raziskavo poskušali razumeti, kakšni so dejavniki tveganja za samomorilno vedenje.

Abstract:As part of the diploma thesis, we tried to understand the risk factors for suicidal behavior through research. There are many of these, but most of them are dominated by mental distress, depression, alcoholism and financial distress. We further ascertained what was behind the suicide. Most people before suicide in some way draw attention to their actions, but rarely directly. Suicide is a process that can take a long time before a person actually performs a suicide attempt. This is helped by all the factors that accumulate and when the distress is too great, the person may try to commit suicide. During this act, there is a hope that the suffering will end, that a better and more beautiful world awaits the person. This thinking can change after a failed attempt and with the help of treatment, the person comes to life again and life gets a new meaning. Treatment with the help of support groups and individual counseling in combination with antidepressants has proven to be a very effective method. We also checked what relatives experience with a suicidal individual. We have found that loss burdens them and is associated with multiple emotions: guilt, anger, restlessness. It is important that they are not in need alone to seek professional help, which in Slovenia is unfortunately not organized as part of the treatment of a person who has attempted suicide. Relatives must therefore find their own way by inquiring about the availability and appropriate form of assistance. Finally, we presented strategies such as the promotion of mental health, training of professionals, restricting access to suicidal methods, which are very important in the field of suicide prevention. It is professionals such as psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, .. who are the first to help a person, so they must pay attention to the personality structure of the individual, but also know how much the patient is able to enter into verbal and nonverbal communication with him . It is important that they are flexible in their treatment and that they use approaches that are appropriate for each individual patient. First and foremost, however, it is important that a person who has attempted suicide be treated according to what that person needs and not what is wrong with them.
