Title:Influence of electrophysiologic and phisiotherapeutic methods on motor function improvement in stroke patients. Introduction and purpose
Abstract:Stroke is a common occurrence among adults worldwide. Due to the aging population, the incidence of stroke is expected to increase even further. When suspecting a stroke, the most important thing is to recognize the symptoms and provide medical help. Upon arrival at the hospital, we can begin rehabilitation once the patient is out of a life-threatening condition. Modern rehabilitation teams strive for methods which are scientifically proven to promote neuroplasticity after an acute event and thus lead to better and/or faster rehabilitation. During rehabilitation we use electrophysiological as well as slightly more researched physiotherapeutic methods. Both electrophysiological and physiotherapeutic methods prove to be effective. An important aspect in ensuring a quality patient care seems to be the appropriate choice of method or combination of them. The course of rehabilitation is influenced by many factors that are completely different for each individual. The cooperation of the rehabilitation team is required, combining the knowledge of the profession, which leads to an individually created combination of rehabilitation methods. Furthermore, with additional scientific findings we could determine the optimal parameters of a particular electrophysiological method for an individual or, for example, optimize the number of repetitions of a particular strength exercise. Therefore, in the future the number of studies and the number of patients involved is crucial for the best possible understanding of the factors that could influence the course of rehabilitation.
