Title:Hospital treatment of anorexia nervosa in children and adolescent : diploma thesis
Abstract:Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that is classified as a mental illness and can seriously endanger an individual's life, as the consequences are visible on both the mental and physical levels. Good knowledge of the symptoms and appropriate action are important, as early detection of the disorder is crucial for further development of anorexia nervosa in children and adolescents. If not treated, the disorder can seriously endanger the life of a child or adolescent due to the low calorie intake o fan individual during a period of accelerated growth. In this case, hospital care for the disorder is required and the therapist/counselor also has an important role as it is first necessary to eliminate mental distress and internal conflicts and then treatment can also begin on physical level. The theoretical part describes the types, symptoms and causes of eating disorders, defines anorexia nervosa in childhood and adolescence and its treatment. The empirical part presents the hospital care of a child and adolescent with anorexia nervosa. The main interests are clinical criteria that make it necessary to refer a child or adolescent with anorexia nervosa to the hospital, how does a typical day in the hospital look like, what are the main components of a daily diet plan and what affect the success of a treatment. We also wanted to find out what is the role of a therapist/counselor in the process of treating anorexia nervosa. The work of different professionals who work with children and adolescent with anorexia nervosa is presented with interviews. To understand the entire treatment process better, an adolescent with an experience of hospital treatment of anorexia nervosa is also included in the study. With the help of all participants, we described the treatment of anorexia nervosa, the daily plan of a child or adolescent at the hospital, the diet plan and the conditions the child or adolescent must meet before the discharge from the hospital.
