Abstract:V diplomski nalogi smo raziskovali delo medicinskih sester v domu za ostarele. Vse tri pojme smo predstavili v teoretičnem delu diplomske naloge. Kot raziskovalno metodo v empiričnem delu smo izbrali kvalitativni pristop, in sicer polstrukturirani intervju. Z medicinskimi sestrami smo v zvezi s paliativno nego in evtanazijo ter z njihovim doživljanjem umiranja in smrti bolnikov opravili intervjuje.

Abstract:In the thesis we researched the work of nurses in a nursing home. Healthcare workers in nursing homes also care for the seriously ill and dying. Nurses and medical technicians daily face various situations in the work process, which often lead to dilemmas and uncertainties about how to properly deal with patients and their relatives. Healthcare workers are often faced with concepts such as death, palliative care, and euthanasia at the end of a patient’s life. All three concepts are presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. As a research method in the empirical part, we chose a qualitative approach, namely a semistructured interview. We conducted interviews with nurses regarding palliative care and euthanasia, and their experiences of dying patients and their death. The research sample included five nurses employed in a nursing home. We reviewed and processed the collected data by generating codes and combining them according to the topic. Research has shown that death inflicts certain psychological burdens on employees. What this burden is and how nurses experience it, depends on their age, work experience and frequency of encounters with death. It has also been found that nurses advocate palliative care, its development and implementation, while euthanasia is supported by some nurses only in exceptional situations.
