Abstract:In the thesis, we have asked a research question and tried to answer: does media influence perception of security. We have split the thesis into two parts: first, we divided the question into two categories based on a descriptive analysis of sources. The first was the security category, where we explained the concept and definition of security. At the same time, we analyzed what security issues bring in modern times and the security aspect in Slovenia. Then we have focused on the categories of media; we concentrated on the technical composition of the media and tried to explain how informing end-users is complex. At the same time, we described a filter bubble and a feedback loop that user(s) have created. In the second part, we dissected questions and created five hypotheses; then, we performed a quantitative analysis to find corresponding answers. The results showed that today’s user is media-driven, lives in his filter bubble, and is not sensitive to security issues. He is aware of the monitoring by the media and, to some extent, agrees with it. Tables are turned when some unexpected news is published that directly affects him. In this case, he puts security first and pushes privacy into the background. We can conclude that the media have more control when the user is subject to a notification system, where the emergency information flow is more frequent. At that time, his trust in the media is greater. However, his privacy suffers in the process. But it could be recouped if he empowers himself in terms of information technology and getting information from various media sources.
