Title:Determining appropriate kinesiotherapy for older adults
Abstract:Because of people's life expectancy is increasing is aging population increasingly common phenomenon in today's society. There are more and more older adults who is becoming physically disabled, dysfunctional in performing their daily tasks and increasingly dependent on the help of others. The goal of our thesis was to find what are the recommendations of profession for suitable kinesiotherapy for older adults, which helps to maintain or to prevent rapid decline in motor skills due to aging and physical inactivity and allows independent aging and maintaining quality of life. We mainly focused on appropriate kinesiotherapy for maintaining balance, muscle strength, power and muscle mass, because these motor skills are very important for preventing sarcopenia, dynapenia, osteoporosis, falls and with them related fractures. After reviewing the literature, we found out that resistance training is an effective means for maintaining or gaining bone and muscle mass, muscle strength and power. We found out that balance exercise should be a major component in kinesiotherapy for reducing the chances of falls and fractures. A multi-component, balance training is recommended. In addition to resistance training and balance training, the guidelines for older adults recommend mobility exercises and aerobic endurance training of moderate intensity for at least 150 minutes per week or high intensity for at least 75 minutes per week. To maintain or gain good functional status in older adults, multi-component training is recommended. Authors recommends that multi-component trainings should include resistance exercises, balance exercises, aerobic endurance exercises and exercises for mobility. Emphasis should be on resistance training and balance training. It is important that kinesiotherapy, movement therapy is performed regularly and continuously with an appropriate selection of exercises that take into account the health limitations of the individual. The strain which determines the intensity of exercise should be progressive and adjusted to the individual's performance and his health status.
