Title:Long-term care and physiotherapy treatment of older adults
Abstract:Aging population is becoming world wide problem of 21. century. Increasing number ob old people means higher need of long term care. On the other side fast lifestyle disables relatives of disabled older people to care for them in their own home. Therefore they are forced to place this kind of elderly people in the long term care facilities. Many old people this kind of change accept positively because they might be lonely at home, but for many of them this might be a negative change which may result in deterioration of health. At home relatives od disabled elderly people are assisted by the patronage service, social workers and physiotherapists. With age the immune system weakens and that affects on innate and adaptive immune response. With age there is a constant presence of low-grade systemic inflammation, which means a greater tendency to infections. The immune system is directly related to the aging of the endocrine, nervous, digestive, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system. The body composition of the elderly is also slightly changed, namely body mass and body fat increase, which leads to the appearance of many chronic diseases such as diabetes cardiovascular diseases, COPD. With age body muscle mass begins to decline, which in turn leads to an increase in fat mass and related diseases as well as a decline in functioning (slower gait speed, fraility, falls). With the decline in functioning, the functioning of the immune system also declines, for which exercise is very important, as inactivity causes low-level systemic inflammation.
