Title:Effects of exercise for adult patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain
Abstract:Introduction and purpose: Non-specific low back pain (NLBP) is one of the most frequent pain syndromes and the main cause for work incapacity. The purpose of this undergraduate thesis is to carry out a literature review to discern what type of exercise program can help reduce the intensity of pain in patients and to improve their functional abilities, as well as to find out if exercise intensity influences its effectiveness. Methods: A descriptive method was used based on which we performed the literature review and discussed our working hypotheses. Results: Ten studies were included in the final systematic review. Pilates, deep core stabilization (DCS) exercises, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and Tai Chi were found to be effective exercise programs in patients with chronic NLBP. A correlation was also found in the intensity of the exercise program, namely the higher the intensity of the exercise the more it is effective. Usability: The findings on exercise intensity may affect the quality of the rehabilitation programs for patients with chronic NLBP. The effectiveness of different types of exercise affects the diversity of treatment in patients with NLBP. Limitation: The main limitations were found to be limited, inaccessible, payable articles as well as only partly accessible articles.
Keywords:non-specific low back pain, effects of exercise, exercise programs, Pilates, deep core stabilizers, exercise intensity.
