Title:Integration of unaccompanied minor refugees from Syria into the Slovenian cultural space
Abstract:This Master's thesis serves to research unaccompanied minor Syrian refugees that had to leave their country due to intolerable war events. Theoretical part describes the reasons for migration of these unaccompanied minor refugees as well as how they are integrated in our cultural environment. We introduce the procedure for treatment of minor refugees and later their accommodation in the most suitable institutions. They are being helped by trustworthy people, such as their guardians, appointed form the side of the country, as well as volunteers from nongovernmental organizations. In the empirical part we researched, how it is to collaborate with unaccompanied minor refugees and what kind of accommodation is the most suitable for them. This research was based on ten interviews, which include governmental organizations, guardians and volunteers that collaborated with minor refugees, and two refugees that were willing to share their experience. What interested us the most were the methods and ways of work with minors, best practices, which would also be applicable for educators in school dormitories. Interviews provided an insight into the work of guardians and volunteers, who are one of the most important persons for minors. Even accommodation into suitable institutions brings relief to minor refugees, since it is especially important that they feel safe and well in our country after a long and dangerous journey. Another key factor that plays a role in their integrations is the educational system, as it serves as a basis for learning the Slovene language and provides refugees with an opportunity to find work and an easier integration into our society.
